About the TQUK Certificate in Graded Examination in Visual Art
This examination aims to establish a visual arts assessment system with a clear progression pathway that can be standardised, audited and delivered across centres. It enables children, young people and suitable adult candidates to demonstrate progressively their skills in observation, composition, control of media, creative expression and higher-order reflection.
TQUK and Regulatory Recognition
This qualification is awarded by Training Qualifications UK (TQUK). TQUK is a UK awarding organisation regulated and recognised by the UK Government’s Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The examination structure, assessment standards and certificate have all been developed in accordance with the relevant requirements, enabling candidates to document their learning journeys and demonstrate their attainment.
Aims of the Examination
The examination places equal emphasis on performance in the on-site practical examination and the candidate’s learning over time. It also gives importance to originality, integrity, reliability and comparability. Clear marking criteria support delivery across centres and subsequent review. At the higher grades, greater emphasis is placed on artistic reflection, concept development and cultural understanding.
Intended Candidates
The examination is suitable for children beginning their study of visual art; young people undertaking structured art training; advanced candidates who need to develop an advanced portfolio and the ability to reflect on their creative practice; and adult candidates who meet the eligibility requirements.
Administering Organisation
Universal Visual Arts Assessment Centre is the operating body for the examination and is responsible for its documentation systems, examination administration, marking and quality assurance, post-results services and public information.
